‘Memory Boat:’ Exhibit seeks to examine grief, memory

Artist Fiona Hoffer of Oberlin, Ohio, recently installed her sculpture entitled “Memory Boat” as part of the South Arkansas Arts Center’s 2018 Juried Art Competition. The work, an examination of the interplay between grief and memory, involved the construction of a full-scale boat made of corrugated metal, which was then filled with water. Inside, Hoffer submerged a lighted box and floated pieces of emotionally significant fabric and clothing. The entire exhibit can be viewed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, at the South Arkansas Arts Center, 110 E. 5th St.
