El Dorado falls to Warren 55-48 at Holiday Classic

CAMDEN - Warren closed the game with a 7-0 run Friday and pulled away from El Dorado 55-48 in the semifinals of the Camden Fairview Holiday Classic. The Lady Wildcats dropped to 8-3 on the season and play in the third place game today at 4 p.m.

The Lady Lumberjacks scored the first seven points of the game and the final seven. Warren led 19-9 early in the second before El Dorado closed the gap to 27-25 at the half.

The Lady Wildcats took their first lead of the game, 30-29, on a 3-pointer by Tasia Richardson with 5:56 left in the third. Richardson drained another 3-pointer to stretch the margin to 35-31. El Dorado closed the third quarter with a 42-37 advantage.

Warren opened the fourth with a 7-0 spurt, which included Ty’shuna Stepps’ three-point play. Faith Jackson scored inside to give the Lady Jacks a 44-42 lead. El Dorado tied the game on Breya Clark’s jumper.

The teams went back-and-forth until Richardson scored to put El Dorado on top 48-47 with 2:37 remaining.

But, Warren was steadier down the stretch. The Lady Wildcats turned the ball over on fourth consecutive possessions. The Lady Jackson got four free throws in a row by Jackson and pulled away at the end.

Jackson and Stepps led Warren (5-2) with 18 and 16 points, respectively.

Jessica Morton paced El Dorado with 16 points and eight rebounds. Clark scored 12 and Richardson chipped in with eight.

El Dorado advanced in the tournament Thursday with a 58-24 win over Bearden. The Lady Wildcats led 36-16 at the half.

“I thought we played well coming off the break,” said El Dorado coach Destinee Rogers. “I was pleased with what I saw in the first game.”

Amyiah Williams led El Dorado with 11 points with Morton adding 10.

Clark and Richardson scored eight apiece and Diamond Hawthorne contributed six.
