Smackover gets past Horatio 8-3

SMACKOVER - Smackover ventured out of conference to take on Horatio on Thursday. The Lady Bucks continued their dominance with an 8-3 win over the Lady Lions. Smackover, which has clinched the 3A-8 title, improved to 21-5 on the season.

Karis Robinson was the winning pitcher, allowing six hits and three runs in seven innings.

Reagan Richardson and Vanessa Lofton both homered for Smackover, which travels to Junction City today for a 5 p.m. contest.

The Lady Bucks scored two runs in the first on one hit with two errors. Lydia Pullin singled and scored on an error. Karli Goocher reached on an error and scored on another error.

Lofton opened the second inning with a lead-off home run. Makayla Burroughs was on first base, running for Robinson, who walked. Pullin doubled and Burroughs scored on an error on the play. Richardson followed with a two-run home run.

The Lady Bucks increased the lead to 7-0 with a run in the fourth. Goocher singled and scored when Lexie Gilbert’s grounder to short was misplayed.

Horatio got on the board in the sixth when Leanne Beasley hit a two-run home run.

Smackover got a run back in the bottom of the sixth. Richardson singled and would later score on a passed ball.

The Lady Lions ended the scoring in the seventh when Beasley doubled in a run.
