Summer at Barton Library

June 27, 2019 8:42 p.m.

The Barton Library held a healthy eating workshop this week, bringing children to learn about the five major food groups. Felicia Moore and Kelley Rogers of the Union County Extension Service led the workshop, which was held as part of the Kids in the Kitchen program of the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, which seeks to educate children on healthy eating techniques. This year, they’ve held a water safety class, science lessons and a magic show. This summer, Barton Library is hosting a reading program made to encourage children to read. Children in the program will receive a prize for every five books they read. The children’s program takes place Tuesday through Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m.; there is also a reading program for teenagers, which is held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Mondays. Registration is available during the library’s normal business hours, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, or from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
