El Dorado knocks off White Hall in conference opener

WHITE HALL - It’s been said that turnabout is fair play.

In the case of El Dorado senior standout Holden Lowry, it took nearly a year, but the end result was certainly worth the wait.

Lowry, who has signed with Arkansas-Monticello, went the distance with a five-hitter and drove in the go-ahead run with a seventh-inning single, as El Dorado knocked off White Hall 4-3 Tuesday in a 5A South clash.

The Wildcats (2-0, 1-0) saw 1-0 and 3-1 leads evaporate, but took the lead for good in the seventh.

Sam York was hit by a pitch and stole second and third base before Lowry delivered a run-scoring single to give El Dorado their third lead of the game.

Lowry allowed three runs with two being earned in picking up his first win of the season. He walked one and struck out five.

A year ago, Lowry struck out 13, needing only 83 pitches to complete a six-hitter, but the Bulldogs prevailed 5-4.

EHS and White Hall split their two games last year which being decided by a run.

Mitchell Polk went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Wildcats, who had five hits in the contest.

Drew Owens had an RBI single and Paxton Strong also had a single for EHS, which left 10 men on base.
