Parkers Chapel and Junction City will share hosting duties for the 2A 6 District Golf Tournament, which tees off Tuesday at the Lions Club Golf Course. Start time for the 18-hole event will be approximately 10 a.m.
Parkers Chapel coach Hillary Frisby believes both the Trojans and Lady Trojans should be in the hunt again this season.
“Both the boys and girls golf teams have had a very successful season to this point. We hope to carry this over into the district and state competition,” she said. “With golf being the difficult sport that it is, anything can happen on any given day. That is why this time of year is very exciting and stressful at the same time. It will be exciting to see who steps up to the challenge.”
The Trojans’ lineup consists of Landon Black, Camden Hall, Hunter Cheatham and Jaxon Waggoner. The Lady Trojans will have Bella Frisby, Reaux McAuliffe, Lorali Barnes and Makenzie Morgan.
Horatio girls and Spring Hill boys are the defending conference champions.
“Both teams have a lot of experience coming back this year. But at the end of the day, our biggest competition is going to be ourselves,” Frisby said. “If we bring our ‘A’ game and stay mentally focused, I like our chances of competing for this district championship.”
The Dragons’ lineup will include Jaxon Temple, Cole Maxey, Hayden Walker and Cooper Wilson.
“We have gotten better as the year has progressed,” said Junction City boys’ coach Brad Smith. “Jaxon Temple is our most consistent player because of his experience. The rest have the ups and downs that inexperienced players show. They will drive well and putt and chip poorly. They will hit their irons well but not drive the ball consistently. They just need rounds and swings to get better.”
The Lady Dragons’ lineup will include Karla Castillo, Valarie Kidwell, Makayla Knight and Addison Carey. Castillo is the only returning golfer with district tournament experience for Junction City, which hasn’t played a full 18 holes, yet this season.
“We have practiced 18 but not on an actual match. They got canceled,” said Junction City girls’ coach Shelby Ward. “It absolutely could be a factor but I’m confident our kids’ endurance.”
Ward added, “We are excited to co-host the conference tournament this year at the Lions Club with Parkers Chapel. Coach Frisby is a blast to work with.”
“We would love to have everyone come out and support these student-athletes,” said Frisby. “I would also like to give a big thanks to Junction City and all the help and support they have given during this season and into the district tournament.”
