El Dorado’s cross country teams will compete in the Lakeside Rams Invitational on Tuesday. It’s a quick turnaround for the runners, who participated in the Arkansas National Guard Be Your Best Cross Country Meet on Saturday in North Little Rock.
Coach John Koonce said the meet in Hot Springs will be the gauge to determine how much his team has developed.
“Next week is the big meet,” Koonce said Saturday. “You’ve got probably five of the top 10 teams in the state are going to be there. We’ve been looking forward to that meet.
“We trained very hard last week. If you’re going to be as good as you can be at the end of the year, you’re going to run some meets with dead legs because you had a big training week. That’s what we did last week.
“We had a real big training week, very high volume, two extremely hard workouts. They ran on dead legs on Saturday. That will not be the case on Tuesday.
“We told our Sunday runners to take Sunday off. We’re going to have a pretty light practice on Monday with the hopes of having pretty fresh legs on Tuesday to see how we stack up.”
Tuesday’s meet begins at 4 p.m.
