The Arkansas Land and Community Development Corporation is set to host a meeting in El Dorado Thursday focused on providing information and resources to local farmers or aspiring farmers who are members of underserved communities.
According to an agenda provided by the ALCDC, representatives from agencies including the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Farm Service Agency and USDA Rural Development will give presentations during the meeting.
ALCDC representatives set to speak include CEO Dr. Calvin R. King, Jr and division director of farm services Dr. Talesha Dokes.
Billed as "do you want to start a micro-urban farm?," specific topics to be discussed during the meeting will include community resources for business and community development and housing, resource opportunities for micro-urban farming, drones in agricultural, farm support program services and opportunities for beginning farmers, ranchers, and veterans, resources to address heir property challenges and the Section 22007 application for discrimination financial assistance.
The ALCDC, which is based in Fargo, Ark., works to provide resources for beginning farmers, limited resources and minority farmers, youth services, and community and housing development, according to the organization.
The meeting is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the Mahony Family Library auditorium, located on the South Arkansas College campus, on Thursday, Sept. 21.
