Smackover’s boys golf team has enjoyed a solid regular season. Now they are aiming to continue that success in the postseason.
On Monday, the Bucks will compete in the 5-3A District Tournament, which is being held at Glenwood Country Club. The girls will compete at Glenwood on Tuesday.
The tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. on both days.
Smackover coach Josh Wesson said he’s been pleased with how the regular season has transpired.
“The regular season went really well,” Wesson said. “The boys team won five of the seven regular-season matches and the girls got better every match all year. I’m really proud of both the boys and girls teams.”
Smackover has some familiarity with Glenwood having competed there last month against Centerpoint and Prescott.
The Bucks won the nine-hole match by eight strokes over the Knights with Judson Wolfe shooting a 41 to lead the way.
“The district tournament will be at Glenwood Country Club and we played there earlier this year,” Wesson said. “We only played the front nine during that match, but we did really well. I had a few that didn’t go to the match that day, but they’ve gone on their own and played the course since then. It will help having knowledge of the course going into district.”
As far as expectations are concerned, Wesson said he wanted his teams to enjoy the environment.
“The expectations for Monday and Tuesday are to go out there play our game and have fun,” Wesson said. “We’ve already had a really good year, and let’s feed off of that momentum. The boys team will consist of Judson Wolfe, Avery Neal, Wyatt Parker and Ethan Tarver. The girls team will be Abby Brewer and Sarah Cook.
“I’m extremely proud of how hard they’ve worked all season and look forward to seeing what they can do at district. Our golf program is filled with some really special kids and supportive families. No matter what happens on Monday and Tuesday, it’s been a great year, and I’m blessed to be their coach.”
