Lady Trojans look to end short skid

After winning 10 consecutive games, Parkers Chapel enters the week on a two-game skid after falling to Fordyce and Gurdon last week.

The Lady Trojans fell to 17-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play after a disheartening 56-54 loss to the Lady Go-Devils on Friday.

Coach Justin Welch found a common denominator in the two defeats.

“Against Fordyce, we didn’t have the best first half and it was the same thing (against Gurdon). Our first halves really hurt us,” he said. “But (Friday) I thought we shot the ball really well. In fact, looking at our statistics, we shot way better. It’s just our defense didn’t quite play as well. A lot of that is they’re not a great match-up for us. We just have to make sure we have each other’s back and play good team defense whenever it’s a tough match-up. I felt like our defense was really the demise that hurt us (against Gurdon), especially toward the end and throughout the course of the game.”

Parkers Chapel travels to Hermitage for a non-conference game on Monday before dipping back into league play with another key match-up, hosting Ouachita for Sweetheart Night on Friday.

Welch is comfortable his squad won’t let the snowball start rolling in the wrong direction down the season’s stretch.

“I have trust in this group. They’re winners. They love to win. I know they’ll get refocused,” he said. “We just have to understand, the sun is going to rise again. We’ve got to get back on that court and get after it. We can’t let that loss beat us again. We’ve got to learn from it and move on.”
