Jimmy Charles “Jim” Hargett, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Courtyard Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness.
Born, August 17, 1937, in Lawson, Arkansas, he was the son of James Wilson Hargett and Floy Church Hargett. He graduated from Parkers Chapel in 1955, where he played forward on the high school basketball team.
Jimmy spent most of his life in the building industry where he was a master carpenter for Wilson Hargett Construction Company. He later started his own company and was known for his excellence and precision in home building.
He loved all things outdoors – farming, gardening, hunting, and fishing. As a professional bass fisherman, he participated in tournaments on the B.A.S.S. national circuit, sponsored by South Ark Sports.
He is survived by two sons, Donny and wife Lucretia, and Mark and wife Arlene; a brother, Adrin Hargett and wife, Linda, and a sister, Alma Joy McCann and husband Benjy. He had six grandchildren – Joshua Hargett, Alyssa Alderman, Brianna Woods, Kimberly Carter, Emily Priest and Lucas Hargett along with 12 great-grandchildren (Micah, Zeke, Baylor, Boston, Austyn, Jayden, Harper, Payton, Kerrigan, Karley, Audrey, and Carlee.)
A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. until funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 19, at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Donny Hargett and Bro. Benjy McCann officiating. Private interment will follow in Rhodes Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado, AR.
