Janice Sue Brotherton

On January 11, 2023, Janice Sue Brotherton, a vivacious wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed from this life.

Jan was born in Checotah, Oklahoma, on August 10, 1940, to Joel and Audrey Yandell, and married the love of her life, Len Brotherton, on August 12, 1960.

Jan is best known for her generous spirit, an incredible capacity to live every moment to its fullest, and her embracing everyone around her as her own.

Jan had a tremendous love of family. Her commitment and dedication to her husband was unwavering, and an inspiration to all who knew them as a couple. She dearly loved her children, but her grandchildren were her world. She loved teaching them to read, working puzzles, going to the park, and supporting them in band, sports, and cheer; and she was incredibly proud of the adults they have become. She adored spoiling them, especially letting them surreptitiously watch SpongeBob and sneaking them gas money.

Jan began her career at Mohawk Tire Company, but later found her passion when she graduated from nursing school in 1980. A nurse for three decades, she was naturally caring and compassionate; and she retired from the Medical Center of South Arkansas in 2007. Jan also enjoyed her church family at Immanuel Baptist, where she led Awanas and kept babies in the nursery and for Mother’s Day Out.

Jan is survived and will be acutely missed by her devoted husband, Len; her son and daughter-in-love, Dr. Don and Fran Brotherton; her grandchildren, Haley, Michael, and Hannah Brotherton; her brother and sister-in-law, David and Lori Yandell; three special nieces Nicki Arriaga, Genny Swanson, and Jessica Yates; and many great-nieces, a great-nephew, family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Brotherton; her parents; her brother, Nick Yandell; her grandparents, John and Clara Kelley and Seab and Ella Yandell; and her nephew, Jeremy Glad.

If only we had another lifetime to love and learn from her.

The family will receive friends Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 5 pm to 7 pm at Young’s Funeral Directors. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 2 pm, Monday, January 16, 2023 in chapel of Young’s Funeral Directors with Rev. Clark Whitney officiating. A private interment will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family has established The Jan Brotherton Memorial Fund with First Financial Bank, PO Box 10185, El Dorado, AR 71730.

Condolences for the Brotherton family may be shared at www.youngsfuneralhome.com.
