Newhaven announces new CEO

The Board of Directors of Newhaven Counseling and Health Services recently announced that Coleman Matthews has been appointed the new CEO.

Matthews officially assumed responsibilities on March 1. He joined the Newhaven Team in March 2021, serving as the Director of the Camden Clinic.

Before becoming employed with Newhaven Counseling and Health Services, Matthews was chief clinical officer for the largest behavioral health and substance use treatment program in the state, overseeing all clinical aspects for 22 outpatient clinics and five residential facilities.

Matthews has a master of arts degree in systemic family therapy from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and holds credentials as a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. His career in behavioral health spans nearly 20 years, ranging from school-based direct care services to local and regional management of clinical programs.

Outside of work, Matthews enjoys history and all outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, hiking and more. His hobbies include recreating primitive weaponry and tools of Native American and other indigenous cultures as well as baking and cooking. He is married and the proud father of one grown son.
