The United Way of Union County has awarded ten local organizations a total of $5,000 in Community Impact Mini Grants, according to executive director Alexis Alexander.

The non-profit groups were recognized at an awards reception on April 5.

The United Way of Union County's Community Impact Mini Grant program aims fund programs in the community to meet additional health and human service needs outside of those offered by our partner agencies. UWUC has committed more than $870,000 to the program since it started in 2003.

"We are very excited to present these awards to these non-profit agencies – not just existing United Way agencies - in our community who provide much-needed services to thousands of residents in Union County," said Alexander. "We're excited to be able to reach further into the community by creating these new partnerships."

With a focus on health and human service issues, the United Way of Union County was interested in funding viable projects to recipients who are not United Way agencies.

These funding requests presented innovative approaches to meeting the health and human service needs of the community in the areas of: Education, Health Services, Culture/Recreation, Safety and Violence and Healthy Behaviors. Other factors for funding consideration include measurable outcomes, programs that meet currently unmet needs, and the agency's ability to secure funds to continue the project.
