A Union Pacific train derailed near Thomas Street in Stamps on Monday evening.

Stamps Fire Chief Brady Gore said six to eight cars derailed from the tracks.

"6:10 is when we got the call. At 6:10, Stamps Fire Department, Stamps Police Department, Lafayette County Sheriff's Department and Lewisville Fire Department all got the call and showed up as quickly as possible," Gore said.

Two fire trucks each from Stamps and Lewisville responded to the derailment.

No one was injured, Gore said.

"According to preliminary investigations, there was at least one car that carried hazardous materials. Thankfully from what we can tell that car didn't derail and those that did do not seem to be hazardous," said Gore.

Union Pacific crews arrived Monday night.

Gore said trains may have been backed up all the way to Pine Bluff by Tuesday morning. The train cars had been removed and the tracks were fixed by noon on Tuesday, he said.

No hazardous materials were spilled, according to the Department of Transportation.
