PC's Frisby wins 2A state golf crown

GLENWOOD - Parkers Chapel's Bella Frisby shot 75 Tuesday and claimed medalist honors at the 2A State Girls Golf Tournament. The Lady Trojans shot 285 and finished third in the team standings behind St. Joseph (274) and Horatio (280).

Frisby won the individual title by five shots over St. Joseph's Presli Webb, who shot 80 and Horatio's Cadee Glasgow (87).

"I'm very excited. I played pretty well," said Frisby. "I set this goal for myself at the end of golf season last year. I spent a lot of my time at the golf course and I'm very happy that all the work paid off."

The junior said she parred the first five holes and finished the round with two birdies and five bogeys. The key was no bad holes throughout the day on a tight course with narrow fairways and lots of water and sand traps.

"Once I got the lead, I played conservatively and made sure to keep my lead," she said. "My short game was really good and I made smart decisions."

"Bella played very good and smart," said PC coach Hillary Frisby. "She was 1-under going into 13 and then she kind of changed her game and played more conservatively just to keep the lead."

Reaux McAuliffe shot 98 for the Lady Trojans with Makenzie Morgan shooting 112 and Lorali Barnes 117.

Buffalo Island Central (338), Eureka Springs (360), Quitman (361), Ouachita (371), Carlisle (373), Johnson County Westside (374), McCrory (401), Lavaca (414) and Cotter (471) rounded out the team scores.

"I was very proud of my team. They all worked hard and never gave up," said Coach Frisby. "Reaux, Makenzie and Lorali also played really well. They practiced all week and it showed when they played."

Junction City's Allie Thurmon shot 109 and Jess Thurmon shot 133.
