The El Dorado Union County Branch 6034 of the NAACP will sponsor this year's Freedom Fund Banquet on October 22 starting at 6 p.m., according to a press release from branch president Janice Bush.

The 2022 banquet will be held at the parrish hall of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in El Dorado.

Bush said that the keynote speaker this year will be the Rev. Odell Carr, an author and pastor of New St. Mary Baptist Church in Camden.

"Dr. Carr 's first published book was released on April 27, entitled "Resurrecting the Black Mind," a work focused on what blacks have contributed to world civilization, which has been left off the world record," Bush wrote in the release.

The Camden News describes "Resurrecting the Black Mind" as a "wide-ranging treatise" in which Carr "highlights the events that simultaneously transpired in three worlds, determines how it fits together, and brings balance to the facts about the contributions of all people, ultimately helping us create a new consciousness, not just about ourselves but also others who share the world with us."

The Freedom Fund Banquet is the flagship fundraiser for the local chapter of the civil rights organization, according to previous News-Times reporting.
