Stars softball to open fall season

The South Arkansas Community College softball program is gearing up for its fall season. Coach Beth Barcroft has seven playing dates scheduled, including one tournament.

The fall season begins Tuesday, Sept. 13 for the Stars, who will host Northeast Texas Community College for a doubleheader at the El Dorado-Union County Recreation Complex, beginning at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

“Fall games, for us, is more about finding out what works together best for spring season. It is important in the way that it’s crucial for the development into spring,” said Barcroft. “Obviously, we would like to win a couple games but a win for us this fall would be finding out who works best together on the field.”

Barcroft has a roster of six returning players and 12 freshmen. She said the goal this fall is to learn, grow and develop.

“My six returners played in every game last season. They have a lot of game-day experience,” she said. “This fall will be about getting these 12 freshmen some game-day experience and ready for spring. I hope we are able to form a strong bond on the field between them and the returners throughout this fall season.”

The Stars will host a doubleheader against Arkansas Baptist on Sept. 30 and against Central Baptist College on Oct. 29.

The team will travel to Henderson State on Oct. 5 with two doubleheaders at Southern Arkansas University on Oct. 19 and Oct. 26. SouthArk will travel to Jonesboro on Oct. 14-15 to compete in the ASU Red Wolf Fall Tournament.
