Worship service postponed

A worship service that was scheduled for this evening has been postponed.

Myrtis Hooks, organizer of the concert, said that due to a death in her family, she has been called out of town today.

A new date for the event, which had a theme of "A Cry of Healing for Our City," will be announced in the coming weeks, Hooks said.

"I can't wait to complete this awesome assignment with you all," she said in a written statement. "Stay connected! You don't want to miss it!"

The worship service, where Hooks, her nephew Amon Miller and her cousin Lepatrick Miller were set to perform gospel songs for the community for free, was organized as a way to bring the community together in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and a rash of gun violence that has plagued the city this year.

"God pressed on my heart," Hooks said last week. "I wanted to do something free for the community, gather everyone around and do a worship service -- a cry of healing for our city. I wanted to render what I have."

The non-denominational event was being held with the support of multiple local churches.

"El Dorado is big, but it's not too big that we can't keep positivity together," she said. "We want to have the city come out and see if we can spread the positivity, try to bring people together.

Updates on the event will be posted on Hooks' Instagram page, she said.
