City offices closed Thursday; trash collection schedule shifted

by Tia Lyons | November 23, 2022 at 12:00 a.m.

All administrative offices of the city of El Dorado, including the police and fire departments, will be closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving.

Police and fire services will operate as usual.

The holiday will affect the city's residential garbage collection service this week.

Anthony Traylor, city sanitation supervisor, said crews will run their normal, weekly route through today and the Thursday route will be picked up on Friday.

The weekly service starts in Ward 1 on Monday, Ward 2 on Tuesday, Ward 3 on Wednesday and Ward 4 on Thursday.

The commercial route typically falls on Friday.

Traylor said sanitation crews will double back Friday to pick up the Ward 4 residential route.

City administrative offices will close Dec. 23 and Dec. 26 for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

City officials discussed the matter during a regular El Dorado City Council meeting Nov. 10, noting that Christmas Day is on Sunday this year.

City Clerk Heather McVay said she had received inquiries from city employees about which days they would take their paid holidays off.

Mayor Veronica Smith-Creer said that, per feedback she had gotten from city department heads, city employees had opted for Dec. 23 and Dec. 26.

Details about the city's garbage collection service for Christmas are forthcoming.
