PARKERS CHAPEL – Parkers Chapel rallied from a 10-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter to outlast Lake Village 62-60 in overtime for their first win of the year on Monday.
Jaylen Gray had 18 points for the Trojans (1-2), who trailed 28-18 at halftime and 45-35 at the end of the third quarter before rallying.
“We did a good job of hanging around in the game to give ourselves a chance in the fourth quarter to come back,” said Parkers Chapel coach Josh Langley. “We got within seven a few times and they would make a little run and push it back to 12.”
Trailing late in the game, the Trojans started to foul to extend the game, and they were able to claw back into it due to the Beavers missing free throws.
With 4.5 seconds left, Gray found Chris Greer, who was fouled on a shot attempt.
Greer split the free throws to force overtime.
“We struck first in overtime and eventually came away with a win,” Langley said. “I thought our kids fought hard all night. We did a really good job of getting in the paint and drawing fouls, especially in the second half.”
Greer scored 16 points with Elijah Brown also finishing in double figures with 11 points. Ethan Mayweather and Dyson Dougan had seven points apiece for PC.
If there was one area that was an issue for the Trojans, it was at the free-throw line.
“We did not shoot well from the line, going 18-of-40,” Langley said. “We were 2-of-8 in overtime or else we would not have been in as stressful situation to end the game. I’m proud of our guys and it's a great learning experience for us moving forward.”
PC plays at Nevada County on Monday.
