Strong to open season against Crossett with new coach

Strong’s girls’ basketball team is scheduled to open its season on Nov. 18 at Crossett. It’s a bit of a late start but with a new coach, the Lady Bulldogs will put the extra week of preparation to good use.

Malinda Champion will take over the helm at Strong, replacing Jason Porter, who became the Bulldogs’ head football coach this year.

“I took over in September. The transition has been pretty easy with the help of Daphne Baker, who has been the assistant coach for some years,” said Champion. “This is my first year as a coach and I am looking forward to having a great year.”

The Lady Bulldogs will return four starters to the lineup. The roster, which includes five juniors, three sophomores and one freshman, consists of Camiria Cole, Janya Brown, Makiya Brown, Kennedi Dixon, Anaya Ingram, Makaylin Mitchell, Avery Riley, Tiesha Rodgers and Jasmine Smith.

“The goal for our senior girls’ team this year is to try and win a state championship,” said Champion. “The key to our success will be great attitudes, hard work and dedication.”
