EPD investigating fatal weekend shooting

An El Dorado man was fatally shot over the weekend in what appeared to be an execution-style slaying and the investigation into the incident has been going nonstop for more than two days, police said.

Johntavian Hill, who celebrated his 30th birthday three weeks ago, died Saturday of multiple gunshot wounds at his residence at 2322 Oxford St., El Dorado police said.

Officers responded at 11:18 a.m. Saturday to a report of shots fired at the residence and upon arrival, they found Hill lying motionless on the floor of the living room.

Hill was pronounced dead on the scene.

He had sustained 10 gunshot wounds, nine to the back and one to the back of the head, according to a preliminary report that was released Monday by the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock.

Capt. Scott Harwell, of the El Dorado Police Department's Criminal Investigative Division, said investigators have identified at least one potential suspect and are continuing to interview witnesses.

A motive for the shooting has not yet been firmly established, Harwell said, adding that investigators believe the incident may have stemmed from an ongoing rift between Hill and the person(s) of interest.

Investigators recovered a total of 15 shell casings from the scene and pulled four or five bullets from the living room walls and floor.

The slaying marked the city's ninth homicide of the year, more than doubling the total of four in 2021.

Arrests have been made in all of the 2022 homicide cases.

Some of the cases have resulted in more than one arrest, including five people in one case, three in another and two in a third.

Several arrests have also been made in connection to three attempted murder cases this year.
