Strong Mayor leads, according to unofficial results

Strong Mayor Daryell Howell is potentially set for another term, according to unofficial election results from Tuesday's primary elections. Howell faced off against Strong council member Charles Perry in the race.

Howell led Perry by exactly 10 votes Wednesday afternoon - 57 to 47 - with an unknown number of provisional ballots still set to be counted by Union County election officials.

Perry led Howell 8 to 3 based on numbers acquired by the News-Times at press time Tuesday, but the incumbent Mayor pulled ahead as votes were counted throughout the night.

A total of 4,848 Union County registered voters -- 26,262 total registered in the county -- participated in the primary election. The final vote unofficial count was completed shortly before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, but did not include provisional ballots, which will likely be counted later this week during a special meeting of the Union County Election Commission.
