Gary New

Name: Gary New

Age: 74

Occupation: Retired

Party: Republican

Position you're running for: Justice of the Peace District 4

Prior political experience: Justice of the Peace District 4 from 2002 to 2012 and 2021 to present, for a total of 12 years at the end of this term.

Key issues: I find it difficult to find individual issues to identify, so I will answer this way: We are now, I think, facing an unknown fiscal climate at home, our county, our country and the rest of the world. That being said, we as the governing body of the county are faced with the arduous task of making sure that we are aware of this and give all our due diligence to our budgeting and spending practices. We are very fortunate to have in place a finance committee that do, and have done, an exemplary job of handling our county's finances. So, going forward, continuing to use good judgement and being good stewards of our county's money is certainly a key issue.

Why did you decide to run? In 2019, I was approached by several of my constituents to once again run for Justice of the Peace in District 4. I have enjoyed my return and believe my efforts have been a benefit to this Court. For this reason, I have chosen to ask that my constituents continue with the trust in me to continue to represent them with good judgement and honesty.

What qualifies you for this office? I spent many years working successfully with budgets far exceeding what we deal with on the county level.

What do you hope to accomplish if you're elected? Doing my part to see that we continue to see the county flourish.

What do you think is the biggest issue facing the residents of your district, and how do you plan to address it if elected? In all honesty, I do not see any major issues facing us at this time.

What should voters know about you? My name is Gary New. My wife Robin and I have enjoyed a marriage of 55 years. We have one son, Jeff New, and one daughter, Jennifer New. We have five wonderful grandchildren, one of whom is Karli New, who I am now proud to say is a cheerleader at the University of Central Arkansas.
