Buddy McAdams

Name: Buddy McAdams

Age: 55

Occupation: Co-owner of Mac's Tree Service, Inc., Mac's Rental Properties LLC and Diversified Construction and Design, LLC.

Party: Republican

Position you're running for: El Dorado City Council -- Ward 4, Position 1

Prior political experience: Main Street El Dorado board of directors, chairman, 2019; Agape House board of directors, chairman, 2016; El Dorado Rural Water Board, chairman, 2017; and First Baptist Church Deacon Council.

Why did you decide to run? My family has lived in Ward 4 for three generations. My mom and dad (Mary and Roy Lee McAdams) faithfully served several terms on the El Dorado City Council. I desire to help guide El Dorado to regain its pride and become a city of opportunity and growth by serving the citizens of Ward 4 in 2023.

What qualifies you for this office? I am a college graduate of Louisiana Tech University (Ruston, Louisiana) with a degree in business. I own and operate several local businesses with over 100 employees. I am invested in downtown El Dorado and want to continue to see the area thrive. I worked as a firefighter for the El Dorado Fire Department from 1988 until 1993. During that same time period, I served on the El Dorado Police Department Reserve Unit. I understand the issues our public safety officers face each day.

What do you hope to accomplish if you're elected? I want to improve the first impression of our city entranceways. When people drive into our city from any direction, I want people to envision a neat, clean city. I want the grass cut on a regular basis, manicured sidewalks, litter picked up and no "junk" cluttering our thoroughfares. I want to support established industries and continue to attract new businesses to our area. I want to create unity among city leaders and citizens. El Dorado should be everyone's city.

Key issues:

• Establishing unity among city council members and city officials.

• Supporting industries and building relationships.

• Creating/sustaining utility infrastructure.

• Improving the appearance of our city.

• Enhancing roadways and sidewalks.

What do you think is the biggest issue facing the residents of Ward 4 and how do you plan to address it if elected? I believe the biggest issues city residents are currently facing stem around beautification of our current investments and sustaining the infrastructure that is currently in place. This can be accomplished by enforcing city codes for all property owners and preparing in advance for infrastructure improvements to prevent and avoid additional work and expenses.

What should voters know about you? I have been married to Debbie Wells McAdams for 34 years. We have three daughters -- Jordan, Montana and Riley -- and two granddaughters. I am a self-motivated hard worker who believes everyone should work together for one common goal. I will strive to do my best to make El Dorado all it can be for future generations. It would be my privilege to serve as your alderman in 2023.
