I served in the U.S. Navy from in many capacities from 1968 until 1978. I served in the Vietnam War in the South Pacific from 1970 until 1974.

Party: Democrat

Position you're running for: El Dorado City Council -- Ward 3, Position 2

Prior political experience: I have served on the El Dorado Works Board and many other boards in this community. (In September of 2019, Calloway was appointed to fill more than four months that was left on an unexpired term for the Ward 3, Position 2 seat on the El Dorado City Council. He was also a 2020 candidate for the Arkansas House of Representatives District 7 seat, which covers portions of Union, Ouachita and Calhoun counties).

Why did you decide to run? The reason I want to serve in this position is because I see a need for Ward 3 and the city of El Dorado to continue to grow. Many of the individuals in Ward 3 and the entire city have encouraged me to seek the position.

What qualifies you for this office? I am a novice in the political arena. I have limited political experience but I am big on being a servant to the people. I have only been in politics for a short while but my service and leadership have longevity. I know how to be a team player when the team is playing right. I want to serve and help to progressively promote the ideals of morality, economic reform, efficiency and social welfare.

What do you hope to accomplish if you're elected? As an alderman, I will continue to be concerned about our first responders, our police department and veterans who deserve to be taken care of for their service.

Key issues:

• Differences of opinion are a part of democracy and the love for mankind. Brotherhood and sisterhood will take us to victory.

• We need (transitional) programs like the city of Atlanta, Georgia, has to re-integrate former inmates back into the community as citizens who are an asset, versus a liability.

• People all over our nation are sick, dying and facing eviction notices, with little or no money for food, utilities or shelter over their heads. This is also happening right here in El Dorado. That's why I will push with a robust voice for better jobs and wages. I would like to continue to do all that we can to draw new businesses to El Dorado.

• Low-income housing and means and ways to promote home ownership for low-income families -- which would help to revitalize and encourage people to take more pride in our communities. We need federal, state and local-government involvement.

• There is a need to continue to put more resources into public education. Our children are our greatest asset. Training and education are how we will achieve safe and healthy communities.

What do you think is the biggest issue facing the residents of Ward 3 and how do you plan to address it if elected? We are in times of economic ... demise with an unprecedented pandemic around us. Therefore, each of us must take the necessary measures to protect ourselves and others each day, one day at a time.

What should voters know about you? We need God-fearing leaders that will make God-fearing decisions for the common good of all of us. God bless each of you and God bless America.
