Avo Vartenian

Name: Avo Vartenian

Age: 42

Occupation: Self-employed - Avo's Tires and Rims

Party: Republican

Position you're running for: El Dorado City Council, Ward 1, Position 2 (In February, Vartenian was appointed to fill the unexpired term of the Ward 1, Position 2 seat following the resignation of former City Council Member Billy Blann. The term expires Dec. 31).

Prior political experience: El Dorado Works Board (2019 - 2022) and El Dorado-Union County Recreation Complex Board (2017 - 2019, 2022)

Why did you decide to run? I want to put my work ethic to work for the citizens of El Dorado.

What qualifies you for this office? I'm consistent, dependable and I hold myself accountable.

What do you hope to accomplish if you're elected? To still be able to keep the many assets, companies, industries, politics and small businesses working together to help El Dorado grow; maintain a blooming, small-town feel, along with a strong economic engine; and provide a greater quality of life for every citizen.

Key issues:

• Safety for all citizens

• Support and strengthen economic development

• Support activities for children and adults

• Education

• Cleanliness of the city.

What do you think is the biggest issue facing the residents of Ward 1 and how do you plan to address it if elected? Three issues that El Dorado residents are facing are cleanliness, safety and jobs. If elected, I plan to help the city organize and citizens acknowledge responsibilities to help keep the city clean. I also plan to work with citizens and the El Dorado Police Department to identify threats and safety issues and help and support the El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce with resources to bring in businesses.

What should voters know about you? I love my family more than anything, as I know all of you do. I will do anything to give them the best, because if El Dorado is where we choose to call home, then this is my task. I will give every ounce of what I have in me to help make El Dorado safe, prosperous, recreational and educational for them and everyone else. I could not care less who gets credit for doing it. I don't mind taking the backseat as long as the road leads to success and a job well done.
