Hazardous household waste collection today

Clean Harbors will hold its free household hazardous waste collection today for residents of El Dorado and Union County.

The drive-up service is offered the third Saturday of every month, April through September, at the Clean Harbors facility, located at 309 American Circle between 8 a.m. and noon on collection days.

All hazardous waste should be in a sturdy, non-returnable container, as pour off will not be offered. Residents should make sure the waste can be easily removed from the vehicle to avoid any accidental spills.

Some acceptable wastes include used oil and filters; batteries; paints; solvents; rust removers; antifreeze; automotive products; brake fluids; degreasers; carburetor cleaners; dry cleaning fluids; herbicides; pesticides; pool chemicals; common household cleaners; butane cylinders for grills or lanterns; fluorescent bulbs; and other common household items.

Items that will not be collected include: smoke detectors, fire arms, explosives, compressed gases, radioactive waste, business-generated waste, biomedical waste, tires, appliances, e-waste and trash.
