El Dorado to finish spring practice on Tuesday

El Dorado’s spring football practices will conclude on Tuesday with the Spring Game, beginning at 5 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. It’s been a hectic season for the football program, which has had athletes compete on a state championship track and field team and state qualifying baseball and soccer teams, which ended their seasons last week.

Also this week, defensive coordinator Trey Outlaw was named the new head coach at Texarkana.

“I’m excited for Coach Outlaw. It’s a great opportunity for him,” said El Dorado coach Steven Jones. “He’s done a great job here, worked really hard. I think he’s going to do a great job at Texarkana.”

As for finding a new defensive coordinator?

“Right now, we’re going to open it up, take some applications and, hopefully, by the end of next week we’ll have an answer,” he said.

Jones said the football team has enjoyed a productive spring.

“So far we’ve had a really good spring, good numbers and a lot of good reps,” he said. “Good energy at practice, hope to keep that up through Tuesday.
