Zoning Commission to hold public hearing today

The El Dorado Planning and Zoning Commission will convene a public hearing at noon today to hear a variance request for an addition to a local apartment complex.

The meeting will be held in the Council Chamber of City Hall.

Chris and Molly Properties, LLC, of Magnolia, submitted the petition for Terrace Villa Apartments, 105 Kimberly Circle.

With the proposed variance, Chris and Molly Properties is asking to convert tennis courts into a space for storage units.

The tennis courts are adjacent to Apartment Building 6 on the east side of the property near the end of Meadow Lane.

Public comments about the petition will be allowed during the meeting.

The variance request is the second such petition the EPZC will consider in as many months.

In March, commissioners approved a variance request for a new-home construction project at 1021 Euclid.

The variance pertained to setback requirements for the new house.

Plans called for an existing house on the site to be demolished, with petitioner Ashlee Allen saying that the house was "past the" point of rehabilitation

Allen explained that setback requirements for property lines on the sides of the lot are 20 feet wide and the old house was 26 feet wide, which extended beyond the setback lines.

The new house will take up the same footprint but will come with a narrow-house design, measuring 25 feet wide -- a foot narrower than the old American Craftsman house --, Allen told commissioners.
