Junction City downed by Quitman

GREENBRIER – Quitman took an early lead and Junction City could never catch up Thursday as the Lady Dragons fell 7-2 in the first round of the 2A State Softball Tournament. Junction City ended its season with a 17-16 record.

The Lady Bulldogs scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on a two-out, two-run double by Riley Drake.

The Lady Dragons would tie the game in the top of the third. Allie Thurmon beat out a bunt single. With two outs, Leslie Reddick singled before Jess Thurmon drove in two runs with a base hit.

But Quitman scored three in the bottom of the third. Madi Thompson had a RBI single and Chloe Liles drove in two with a base hit. The Lady Bulldogs tacked on two more in the sixth on RBI hits by Gracie Tyler and Silver Mullinicks.

Quitman had seven runs on eight hits and two errors by the Lady Dragons. Tori McLelland pitched six innings for Junction City, walking one and striking out two.

Liles pitched seven innings for Quitman, surrendering one walk with seven strikeouts. The Lady Dragons had six hits while Quitman committed two errors.

Reddick and Mackenzie Brantley had two hits apiece for Junction City.
