3 re-appointed to county Equalization Board

The Union County Quorum Court agreed to the re-appointment of three members of the county's Equalization Board during their most recent meeting, in April.

The Equalization Board is responsible for reviewing and equalizing county property assessments as assessed by the county Tax Assessor, in this case Vicki Deaton, and to hear assessment appeals from property owners.

The Board is comprised of five members: two appointed by the Quorum Court, one appointed by County Judge Mike Loftin, one appointed by county school districts and one appointed by municipalities in the county.

In April, Justices of the Peace approved the re-appointment of both of the Quorum Courts appointees and the County Judge's.

Betty McGhee was re-appointed to a three year term, while Jim Peace and Aubra Anthony were both re-appointed to two year terms.

Anthony, Loftin's appointee, is president and chief executive officer for Anthony Forest Products Company, which was purchased by Canfor in 2015, and was previously appointed by the United States Department of Agriculture to represent the South on the Softwood Lumber Board and is also a member of the South Arkansas Regional Airport Commission.

Jim Peace is a licensed real estate agent in El Dorado. Arkansas law requires that a real estate appraiser, broker or salesperson be appointed to the Board if possible.

McGhee is also a licensed real estate appraiser and broker.

Other members of the Equalization Board are P.V. Griffin, appointed by county school districts, and Yvonne Henry, appointed by county municipalities.
