ORIGINAL STORY

A power outage affecting more than 1,000 Entergy customers has been reported on the northwest side of El Dorado.

Neighborhoods on the east and west sides of College Avenue and north up to Morning Star Road and North West Avenue are affected, according to Entergy, leaving 1,391 customers without power.

The outage comes as south Arkansas is being hit by a heat wave, with temperatures forecast to reach the high 90s today.

Chris Wasson, customer service manner for Entergy, said the outage was caused by a driver on College Avenue.

"A truck clipped the communications lines along College Ave and caused the outage. We are switching to alternate feeds and will be able to restore power to most customers soon," he said.

Full restoration of power for all customers will take two or three hours, he said.

Those without air conditioning are advised by public health authorities to drink water, stay out of the sun and refrain from performing any unnecessary work that will make them hot.
