Junction City knocks off Spring Hill; Smackover falls on road

JUNCTION CITY – A week’s hiatus didn’t seem to bother Junction City, as the Dragons downed Spring Hill 60-38 in their return to the floor on Tuesday night.

The game was the first for Junction City after they picked up a road win at Parkers Chapel on January 11. Their game at Hampton that was slated to be played last Friday was postponed and will be played on February 4.

The Dragons led 10-6 at the end of the first quarter before breaking the game open in the second period to take a 33-12 lead at intermission.

Junction City led 48-25 at the end of the third quarter.

Ryan Allen had another big scoring night for the Dragons, finishing with 29 points in the win.

Jakourian Key was also in double figures with 10 points.

The Dragons also won the junior high game 40-16.

Dez Aaron had nine points, while Jamarion Toles added eight points and Jordan Banks finished six points for Junction City.

The Dragons led 14-13 at halftime before outscoring the Bears 15-0 in the third quarter to take control.

LAKE VILLAGE – D’Kylan Hildreth had 15 points and Dayton Grant had nine points for the Bucks, who were locked in a 26-all tie at halftime before Lake Village pulled away in the second half.

“They just made a run in the fourth quarter on us,” said Smackover coach Caleb Spradlin. “We hadn't played a game in 14 days and we still had a couple of key guys out due to COVID protocol so our six-man rotation just ran out of gas late in the game.”

The Bucks have several games to make up, starting with a home game against Harmony Grove on Thursday with the action set to start at 5 p.m.
