For the first time since 2019, Union County will hosting postseason events.
On Thursday, the Arkansas Activities Association announced who would be hosting postseason tournaments, and three schools were successful in their bids to host four events.
Junction City, who hosted the regional basketball tournament back in 2019, will be hosting the 2A State Tournament.
The Dragons won the right to host over Eureka Springs, Marmaduke, Melbourne, Quitman and Rector.
When Junction City hosted the regional three years ago, the Dragons stormed to the title as a No. 3 seed.
There will also be plenty of spring sports for local fans to take in.
El Dorado will be hosting the 5A State Soccer Tournament, winning the right the host over Hot Springs Lakeside and Searcy.
“We’re excited to get to host the state soccer tournament again, show off our facilities, our community, our local attractions, everything we have to offer so they can see how nice it is,” El Dorado Athletic Director Phillip Lansdell said. “This should be a boost to our local economy.”
Parkers Chapel will be hosting a pair of events with the 2A South Regional Tournament for baseball and softball returning for the first time since 2019.
“We are excited to showcase our facilities and host this regional,” Parkers Chapel Athletic Director Elliot Jacobs said. “Our school and community take great pride into putting on a great experience for players, coaches and fans.”
Like Junction City in basketball back in 2019, Parkers Chapel hosting the regional proved to be a good omen for the local schools three years ago.
Junction City won the baseball regional tournament on its way to winning the state championship, while Parkers Chapel won the softball regional crown.
