The El Dorado City Council Finance Committee is hoping to finalize the 2022 city budget proposal during a meeting that is scheduled for 2 p.m. today in the second-floor conference room of City Hall.
Council members are expected to review proposed budgets that have been submitted by Mayor Veronica Smith-Creer's administration department, the Department of Public Works, South Arkansas Regional Airport at Goodwin Field and the El Dorado Water Utilities.
The meeting is an extension of budget talks that began last fall when the finance committee met separately with the heads of the police and fire departments.
Council Member Vance Williamson, who also serves as chairman of the finance committee, said he would like to add the final budget draft to the agenda for a vote during the council's regular meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday.
In an email last week, Micah Larry -- of local accounting firm Emrich & Scroggins, LLP, who was contracted last year as the city's treasurer -- explained that while the 2021 budget numbers were included in the 2022 budget draft for informational purposes, the actual 2021 numbers had not yet been finalized.
In addition to voting on the 2022 budget proposal, the city council still has to close out the 2021 city budget.
