Smackover's Kelly signs with SouthArk

by Tony Burns | January 9, 2022 at 6:19 p.m.

Smackover’s Gabbi Kelly signed to continue her softball career at SouthArk on Thursday. Kelly, a three-year starter, played shortstop for the Lady Bucks’ 3A state semifinal team a year ago.

“It’s amazing. I’m glad I get to stay home and further my softball career,” said Kelly, who explained her decision.

“The coach, definitely the coach - she’s willing to work with us in any way possible. She’s very encouraging.”

Kelly, who plans to become a radiology technician, batted .477 for the Lady Bucks last season with a home run and 30 RBI.

“I’m super excited to add Gabbi Kelly to the team next year. I think she’s going to bring a type of energy and leadership that is hard to find in players,” Barcroft said. “She’ll be a huge bonus to our lineup next year.”

Kelly said she was excited about the opportunity and is looking forward to her senior season at Smackover.

“I  couldn’t be here today without Coach Steele. I just owe him all my gratitude,” said Kelly. “I look forward to playing with Coach Barcroft and the team she’s built.”
