El Dorado teams fall short at Hot Springs Lakeside

MALVERN – Both El Dorado teams got off to a slow start in 5A-South play, falling on the road at Hot Springs Lakeside on Friday. The Wildcats fell 62-44 in the varsity boys’ game after the Lady Wildcats dropped a 58-46 decision in varsity girls.

Both teams started coolly and fell behind early.

Lakeside built a 21-9 lead in the boys’ game after one quarter. The Rams led 33-15 at the half.

Taevon Johnson led Lakeside with 19 while Jamison Craig added 10 as the Rams improved to 9-3, 1-0. Bryson Boulden and Torenzo Dunn paced the Wildcats with 11 and 10, respectively. Laronte McHenry saw his first action of the season for El Dorado and scored five points as the Wildcats slipped to 3-11, 0-1.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Rams built an 18-4 lead after one quarter, hitting four 3-pointers. The margin was 31-18 at the intermission.

El Dorado cut the deficit to 41-34 in the third.

Charalyn Rester scored 17 points for the Lady Wildcats, who fell to 7-3, 0-1. Lauren Nelson scored 10 points and Mae Mae Johnson contributed nine.

Lakeside (7-5, 1-0) was led by Mady Davenport with 17 points while Amelia Rogers scored 14.

El Dorado hosts Pine Bluff on Tuesday.
