After getting their feet wet in a meet at Searcy on Tuesday, El Dorado’s wrestling teams head to Lake Hamilton for their first conference meet today.
The event is set to start at 6 p.m. and Russellville will also be competing.
For El Dorado coach Jimmy Johnson, this is a day he has looked forward to since their debut season concluded last year.
“The Lake Hamilton tri-meet will be tough competition,” Johnson said. “Lake Hamilton finished well in the state last year. It will be a great way to start conference matches. I am excited to see how we stack up versus some elite competition.”
EHS opened their season on Tuesday against Searcy, and Johnson saw some positives.
“Even though we had more downs than ups versus Searcy, I believe it was good to get our feet wet,” Johnson said. “I liked the way we competed versus a very good Searcy team.”
Johnson added that his wrestlers now have something to learn from.
“It didn't go exactly like we would have liked,” Johnson said. “I was happy with the fight and toughness we displayed, and now we have something to build on and learn from.”
As far as expectations for the first conference meet, Johnson believes his wrestlers are ready to go.
“I expect us to shock some people,” Johnson said. “I believe we can have a good showing versus some great competition.”
