Strong wraps up first week of practice

Strong finished its first week of practice by working on both sides of the ball on Friday.

Strong coach Jason Porter said the Bulldogs worked on fundamentals on defense before turning to more installation of the offense.

“We did a lot of tackling drills to start practice,” Porter said. “The second part of practice, we did mostly offensive installs with two formations.”

Porter said he is pleased with how the first week has gone for the Bulldogs.

“We had a great first week,” Porter said. “The numbers are up on both teams. I’m pleased with the work we put in. I’m still missing about four to six players that I know will be back in town starting next week.”

Porter said the specific numbers should be about the same for junior high and senior high.

“I’ve had 15 to 17 senior high and about the same in junior high,” Porter said.

“I expect to pick up four to eight people as we get closer to school starting, so I’m pleased.”

Porter said a couple of groups have stood out in the first week.

“The quarterbacks have stood out and I expect that,” Porter said. “We got some help on the offensive and defensive line. We got a player back that I didn’t expect in LaKentrel Crayton, who is a 6-2, 260-pound lineman.”

Porter said the focus next week will be much the same as Friday’s practice was.

“Tackling and offensive installs will be what we look at next week as well,” he said.
