Teacher Appreciation Week is set for May 2-6, and the El Dorado School District is inviting parents to help celebrate local educators.
"ESD recognizes that the last two years have been trying, and we know that our teachers have felt a myriad of emotions. Although they are exhausted, they show up every day and continue doing an amazing job," said Taylon Steele, digital media and marketing manager for the ESD, in an email. "We are proud of them. We value them."
One way local residents can give thanks to ESD teachers is through virtual thank you cards. Starting on Sunday, May 1, anyone can visit the ESD website (eldoradopublicschools.org) or social media pages to write a message to their favorite teacher.
"We have a few social media shout-outs planned for the week, as well as our weekly Wildcat Impact post," Steele said. "The only cost of these options is time."
New this year is the opportunity for the community to donate food fgifts to the district to be handed out to teachers, Steele said.
"Our community can help by donating individually packaged items that teachers can get 'grab-and-go' style... like bottled water, fruit, granola bars, chips," she said.
Donations can be dropped off at the ESD Central Office, 200 W. Oak St. on or before noon on Friday, April 29.
"We hope that by including the community in our efforts, our teachers will see how much they are truly loved and appreciated," she said.
"Our message to our teachers? Thank you for loving our kids, for teaching our kids, for being a part of ESD," she added.
