Prostate cancer screening clinics scheduled today, Monday

The Interfaith Clinic will host a free prostate cancer screening clinic today in partnership with the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation.

The clinic is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. at the Interfaith Clinic, located at 2305 Champagnolle Road in El Dorado. Lunch will be provided.

The clinic is open to men ages 45 to 75, and the screening will consist of a simple blood draw.

Men will also have the opportunity to learn about why screening for prostate cancer is important.

On Monday, Arkansas Urology and the Arkansas Urology Foundation will offer free prostate cancer screenings to local men from 4 to 7 p.m. at the local Arkansas Urology Clinic, located at 619 N. Newton Ave.

Mayor Veronica Smith-Creer is expected to issue a proclamation declaring the month Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

According to the Arkansas Urology Foundation, approximately 2,000 Arkansan men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year, and 300 will die as a result of the disease. Prostate cancer is diagnosed on average every two minutes in the United States, according to the Foundation.

COVID-19 precautions will be in place at the event, which is being held as a Kick-off to Men's Health Week.
