Wildcats rally past Cardinals

El Dorado’s ninth-grade football team scored in the fourth quarter to beat Camden Fairview 20-12 Thursday at Memorial Stadium.

The game was scoreless at the half. The Cardinals got on the board, 6-0, first with a 70-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.

The Wildcats answered with a 45-yard touchdown pass from Kerry Shelton to J’Prince Roberson. Cooper Henry’s PAT gave El Dorado a 7-6 lead.

El Dorado pushed the margin to 14-6 on a 1-yard run by Shelton and Henry’s extra point.

Fairview closed the gap to 14-12 on a 3-yard touchdown run in the fourth. But, the Wildcats put the game away on Thomas Smith’s 34-yard touchdown run.

AJ Gilmore and Marquette Montgomery led the Wildcats’ defense with four tackles apiece. Dominique Grimes had three tackles and a pass breakup. Tahmadi White had three tackles and a sack. JaRondy Williams had three tackles and a pass breakup. Jaylen Caldwell had two tackles, a sack and a pass deflection. Martravion Jones had an interception.

El Dorado will travel to Little Rock Southwest next Thursday.
