El Dorado set to start cross country season

El Dorado’s cross country team will open its season on Saturday at the Bob Gravett Invitational in Arkadelphia. Coach John Koonce said his athletes are anxious to run against other teams.

“The athletes have worked hard all summer and we are excited for our first meet in OBU,” said Koonce. “The kids have been grinding hard since the first week of June and we are looking forward to see where we stack against some of the best competition in the state.”

Koonce said Emma McGee and Eliza Brewster will return to lead the Lady Wildcats while Edwin Gonzalez returns for El Dorado’s boys’ squad.

”Emma McGee is primed to have a breakout season and Eliza Brewster should have her best year yet,” he said.“Edwin Gonzalez is also primed to have his best season yet. New athlete Dreshawn Lemons should come on strong as the season goes on. Both junior high groups should be the best junior high teams that we have had. The girls and boys team will be led by strong freshmen classes that will add some depth and strength to our varsity teams by the season’s end.”
