The El Dorado City Council will hold a regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. today in the Council Chamber of City Hall.

The Pledge of Allegiance and opening prayer will begin at 5:25 p.m.

Council members are expected to discuss how to spend more than $1.82 million in federal funding that has been allotted to the city as a part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021.

Mayor Veronica Smith-Creer said she applied for the funding on behalf of the city in June and the funds were disbursed in July.

Last week, she broached the topic with council members, noting that the Union County Quorum Court had agreed to direct a portion of $3.5 million in ARPA funds the county had received toward employee bonuses in the form of hazard pay.

The bonuses will be allotted for each day county employees worked regular hours between March 11, 2020, and April 8, 2021 -- the period during which a State of Emergency had been declared in Arkansas due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Smith-Creer said city employees had reached out to with inquiries about the matter. She said the council had not yet discussed how to expend the funds.

Council Member Andre Rucks is also on the agenda to rescind a vote the council recently made regarding the 2021 city budget, which was adopted Aug. 19.

The El Dorado Police Department is expected to ask the council to sign off on plans to use a federal grant to purchase equipment.
