Parkers Chapel ready for home opener

After getting an unexpected bye week, Parkers Chapel will get the opportunity to play it front of its fans for the first time, as the Trojans host the Prescott JV squad on Friday night.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Victor Nipper Stadium.

The Trojans (0-1) lost their season opener 36-0 at Smackover two weeks ago and were supposed to play at Lafayette County last week, but the game was canceled due to coronavirus quarantines at Lafayette County. Friday’s contest will be the first for the Curley Wolves’ JV squad.

“I don’t know much about their JV other than they practice against one of the best 3A schools in the state every day, and we also know they will be well-coached,” said Parkers Chapel coach Elliot Jacobs.

With Friday’s game being the Trojans’ home opener, Jacobs said his team is looking forward to the game.

“Our kids are excited to play in front of our home crowd for the first time this season,” Jacobs said. “With capacity restrictions being lifted, we hope to have a good and rowdy crowd.”

Jacobs said the Trojans have been focused on the little things in practices.

“Just continuing to get better every day and stay focused on the little details,” Jacobs said.

When asked if there was anything specifically he was looking to see on Friday night from his team, Jacobs said there was only one thing.

“Compete,” Jacobs said. “We tell our players each week that in one play of football, there are 11 one-on-one battles, and we need to win the majority of those on each play to be successful.”

If the Trojans are to have success on Friday night, Jacobs said there were several things his team must accomplish.

“Same as always, limit the big plays on defense, take care of the ball on offense and find ways to steal momentum in special teams,” Jacobs said.
