Strong picks up road win at Spring Hill

SPRING HILL – Strong will be home for the postseason.

On Friday night, the Bulldogs knocked off Spring Hill 34-14 in an 8-Man South tilt to clinch the league’s No. 1 seed for the playoffs.

A week after accounting for four touchdowns in Strong’s dramatic come-from-behind win over Woodlawn, LaQuincy Shelton did the same against Spring Hill, throwing a pair of touchdown passes, running for another while also returning an interception for a touchdown on defense.

The Bulldogs trailed 6-0 at the end of the opening period, but took the lead with a pair of scores in the second period.

Shelton started his big night by throwing a 10-yard touchdown pass to Treveon Daniels with Shelton also adding a successful run on the two-point conversion.

The touchdown from Shelton to Daniels was the third time the duo has connected for a score over the last two games.

Shelton later hooked up with Byron Maze on a 19-yard scoring strike.

In the third period, Shelton came up with a huge defensive play by returning an interception 96 yards for a score.

The Bulldogs then put the game away with their ground game producing a pair of scores in the fourth quarter.

Shelton scored on a 2-yard run with Maze reaching the end zone on a 1-yard run.

Shelton and Maze then collaborated on Strong’s final points with Maze catching a pass from Shelton to make the two-point conversion successful.

Strong (7-0, 5-0) will try to cap an unblemished regular season next week at Cutter Morning Star.

Spring Hill (4-4, 3-3) lost its third straight and will face Woodlawn next week to close out the regular season.
