Pine Bluff Dollarway downs Smackover

PINE BLUFF – Smackover’s hopes for making the postseason suffered a major blow on Friday, as the Bucks fell at Pine Bluff Dollarway 50-14 in 6-3A play.

The Bucks (3-5, 1-4) got out of the gates quickly by scoring on their first possession, but the Cardinals (4-3, 3-2) responded by scoring the first three times they had the ball to pull away from the Bucks.

Jarius Burgie scored on a 4-yard run at the 7:58 mark of the opening period with Brandon Lockhart’s two-point conversion run giving Smackover an early 8-0 lead.

The Bucks then got the ball right back after recovering an onside kick, but an interception brought the drive to an end.

The Cardinals later cashed in with Kenyon Carr scoring on a 2-yard run, but the two-point conversion was unsuccessful, leaving the Bucks with an 8-6 lead.

Smackover led by the same score at the end of the first quarter, but the Cardinals scored 24 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 30-8 lead at intermission.

The Bucks had an opportunity to cut into the lead late in the second quarter, but couldn’t cash in.

After a bad snap on a punt gave the Bucks the ball at the Cardinals’ 10, Smackover went four-and-out with D’Kylan Hildreth getting stopped at the 2 on fourth-and-goal.

Smackover’s lone touchdown of the second half came on a 66-yard strike from Lockhart to Hildreth that made the final margin.

Smackover hits the road to take on Drew Central next week.

The Cardinals will also be on the road when they face McGehee next week.
