Local standouts compete at Overall golf tourney

LITTLE ROCK - El Dorado’s Aubrey Marx and Jon Brooks Elia and Parkers Chapel’s Bella Frisby competed in the Overall High School Golf Tournament Thursday at Pleasant Valley Country Club.

Marx, a senior, finished seventh in the girls’ bracket, shooting an 81. Brooks, a junior, scored 82 in the boys’ bracket and Frisby, a sophomore, shot 95 in the girls’ field.

“Both Aubrey and JB had fantastic seasons this year,” said El Dorado coach Chris Ezell. “To get to end it at the Overall is an honor for them. Only 18 boys and girls in the state qualified for this event, hosted by the Arkansas State Golf Association.”

Marx, who led the Lady Wildcats to their second straight 5A State championship, shot a 37 on the back nine. Elia and the Wildcats finished third after winning the title last season.

Frisby, who helped Parkers Chapel win the 2A State Tennis championship on Tuesday, scored 49 on the front and 46 on the back. Coach Mona Williams said the long week took its toll on Frisby, who shot 73 in winning her conference tournament.

“It’s exciting to see what potential she has for her future,” said Williams. “Her chipping made great progress this season and every part of her game will only continue to improve.”

Har Ber’s Grace Kilcrease shot 74 to win medalist over Isabel Chaidez of Mount St. Mary’s, who shot 75. Ellen Spigner of Nashville shot 76 with Anna Kate Nichols of Pulaski Academy at 78 and Caroline Hughes of Jonesboro at 79.

Farmington’s Rhett South won the boys’ medalist honors with a 73, beating Little Rock Catholic’s Andrew Payne (75), Maumelle Charter’s Luke Hansen (76), Harding Academy’s Jack Henry Wise (76), Melbourne’s Roby Cooper (76) and Taylor’s Aiden Mayfield (76).
